HALLO to all Ekuthuleni Friends,

finally, almost 4 weeks after arriving back home, I have managed to get my computer set up in such a way so that it can cope with the Zimbabwean system, so this is my very first ever attempt to add something to the Eku website, which I hope will work since I only have my scribbled notes to follow, that I took when Armin gave us that high speed crash course for the website.

So far we are all fine at Ekuthuleni, Gumtree and Bridgebuilders, Nkayi . Winter has arrived and we Zimbos are complaining about the 12 degrees cold! During the day we manage but as soon as the sun goes down, and the temperature with it, we are very unhappy people indeed.

Next time I try and post some photos as well!!

Helga Landsmann, geb. 1969 in Nürtingen, lebt und arbeitet seit 1991 als Entwicklungshelferin in Simbabwe / Südost-Afrika. Sie ist in der St.Johannes Gemeinde groß geworden und war in der KJG aktiv. Nach ihrer Ausbildung zur Holzmechanikerin entschloss sie sich, ein Schreinereiprojekt in der Nähe von Bulawayo aufzubauen, welches Teil einer lokalen Kirche ist. Seither bildet sie dort Jugendliche aus sozial benachteiligten Familien in einem zweijährigen Kurs zu Schreinern aus. Das Projekt heißt „Ekuthuleni“, was in der Landessprache Ndebele „friedvoller Ort“ bedeutet und beschreibt, wie die Lehrlinge im Ausbildungszentrum zusammen leben und arbeiten.

 

Durch die Aktion „Licht der Hoffnung“ der Nürtinger Zeitung im Jahr 2000 erfuhr das „Ekuthuleni Carpentry Project“ beachtliche Unterstützung. Im gleichen Jahr wurde der gemeinnützige „Ekuthuleni Projekte e.V.“ gegründet, um die Schreinerwerkstatt sowie den Ausbau des Ausbildungszentrums für weitere Lehrberufe zu fördern.
